|Friday's Bourbon Show|
The Friday night show at the Bourbon Theatre Main Stage was a great success! We'd like to thank all of you who attended. As always, it was a great and appreciative crowd. It was definitely a better environment moving into the "big room".
For those of you that haven't made it out to the Bourbon Theatre yet, you don't know what your missing. We'll keep you up to date on our next scheduled show there as soon as it comes available.
Thanks again to the Bourbon and to everyone who made it out for a great evening!

2010 National Flatpick Guitar Champions
The National Flatpick Guitar Championship held here at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS had thirty-five contestants from 23 US states and four foreign countries (Japan, United Kingdom, France and Australia). When the cut to five was made, the states of IL, TN, NE, SC, and NC. And when the top three were chosen, the Festival had another three time champion in this contest. The record as a three time champion in this event stood for 24 years since Steve Kaufman won his third time in this event back in 1986. This year?s winner hails from Lincoln, NE and he is well known to Festival goers. Jason Shaw said he was a little nervous as he was playing in the round of five. Jason not only has placed first in this event three times (1993, 2004 & 2010) but he has also placed third back in 2003. And Jason has also placed two times each in first, second and third place in the Walnut Valley Old Time Fiddle contest. Other three-peat winners include Gary Davis in banjo, Jeff Pritchard and the late Randy Howard in fiddle and the late Dave Peters in mandolin. Jason is a Home Theater Store owner and he also teaches music lessons. Second place was awarded to Allen Shadd of Lake Wylie, SC. Allen is no newcomer to this contest as he has placed second in this competition four times and has placed first in 1997. Allen came to Winfield this year with his fianc?e, Lauren, and they got married in the West Campground on Friday afternoon. Allen enjoys bass fishing, boating and music. Third place was awarded to a private music teacher from Peoria, IL by the name of Andrew Hatfield. In contrast to the first and second place winners, this was Andrew?s first trip to Winfield and the contest. He was also a contestant in the mandolin contest. Andrew lists his hobbies as basketball and ping pong but he adds to that list music. This experience is one he won?t forget and he can?t wait to come back.

|STRANSKY PARK CONCERT 2010|
The Sandy Creek Picker's STRANSKY PARK 2010 concert was a huge success. We set a new attendance record with over 450 people and it was an absolutely beautiful evening for a show.
There were a lot of hardcore bluegrass fans in attendance and we did our best to keep up with the requests. We were also able to get some very nice photos courtesy of Rod Adams. You can see them here and in the "Photos" section of the website.
The Irvingdale Neighborhood association puts these events on every year for free, and also provide free snow cones and lemonade for the kids and adults. It's a very family oriented atmosphere and we highly recommend attending on of their shows if you haven't already.
One of the evenings highlights was a special guest appearance by Riley Shaw (John Shaw's daughter) playing "Boil Them Cabbage Down" on the fiddle.
It was a good crowd pleaser because Riley is just 5 years old and has only been playing for about 8 months now! Thanks for sitting in with us Riley, you did a great job!
We can't wait to play this show again, it was a great time. Thanks to everyone who came out to hear us!

Just a quick update for our first post:
Summer's finally here and we kicked off our first show at the PS Collective (Pizza Shoppe) in Omaha.
There was a great audience that was very appreciative of the music. It's been a long time since the Sandy Creek Pickers have played the Omaha area, and the first time since our latest band formation. Hope to be back there in the near future!
We also had a chance to try out our new PA system for the first time. Mostly just trying to find the quirks and bugs in it, but it turned out reasonably well for the first outing. Jason and John Shaw were able to get John Paul some new "Evah Pirazzi" bass strings and so far John's giving them a big "thumbs up"! Any of you bass players, or fiddle or guitars players out there need to check the Evah Pirazzi strings out. We think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
You can keep up with our summer dates on the "Calendar" page of the website.
Please tell all your friends about the Sandy Creek Pickers and help build up the bluegrass scene in the area!
See You This Summer!
